Claremont Christian Academy is a private, Christ-centered K-12 school (K4 through 12th grade) that serves families across the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire. It operates as a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church but functions as an open-enrollment school, welcoming students from more than 20 different churches as well as families who do not attend church. The school integrates a strong Biblical worldview into every subject while focusing on academic excellence, character development, and preparing students to become fully devoted followers of Jesus for whatever path God has for them. With two campuses—Lower Campus at 97 Maple Ave, Claremont, NH (elementary focus) and Upper Campus at 689 River Road, Charlestown, NH (junior/senior high)—it emphasizes a safe, caring community where students feel valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their highest potential.
Average class sizes are intentionally kept small (around 15 students) to allow for personalized attention. There are no uniforms, but a modest dress code applies. The school is approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education (NHDOE) and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI); it is pursuing dual accreditation with NEASC and ACSI. It serves roughly 120–130 students total and has been operating since 1976.
Academics
The curriculum is intentionally Christ-centered, with daily Bible lessons and Scriptural principles woven throughout all subjects. Lower Campus (K4–Grade 6/Elementary) uses a combination of Abeka, Bob Jones University (BJU), ACSI Purposeful Design, and supplementary Christian and teacher-created materials. Core subjects include Math, Language Arts, Writer’s Workshop, Science, and Social Studies, supplemented by weekly STEAM, Music Theory, Art, and Physical Education. Full-day Kindergarten options exist for both 4-year-olds (with nap/rest time) and 5-year-olds. Students enjoy three daily recesses for play and socialization, and monthly service projects (e.g., nursing home visits) teach compassion and “leading with love.”
Upper Campus (Grades 7–12 / Junior & Senior High) shifts toward greater student responsibility and hands-on learning in core subjects (Math, English, Social Studies, Science). Students choose from a rotating menu of electives and mini-courses such as Drama, Art, Computer Skills, STEAM, Carpentry, Horsemanship, Yearbook, Chorus, and more. Spanish (or American Sign Language) is required for College Prep or College Prep with Honors diplomas. The school administers annual Iowa assessments (K–12) for progress tracking (internal/family use only) and issues quarterly report cards. Homework reinforces classroom learning (general guideline: 10 minutes per grade level) while respecting family time. Graduates have successfully entered colleges based on academic merit, test scores, extracurriculars, and character. Part-time enrollment options are available for specials, electives, and academics.
Athletics & Physical Education
Physical activity is a priority. All students have regular PE. Upper Campus offers Outdoor Adventure (hiking, snowshoeing, climbing, etc.) and a ski program at Okemo Mountain. Team sports include Cross Country (competes in NHIAA meets across New England), intramural Soccer (Thursday scrimmages against other schools), Basketball (students can join Claremont Middle/High School teams), and a Swim Team (open to Grades 6–12). An annual school-wide Jog-a-thon serves as a fun fundraiser. Emphasis is on healthy living, teamwork, and building confidence.
Extracurriculars & Fine Arts
The school offers rich opportunities for creativity and community involvement. The drama program produces full-scale annual productions (recent examples include Fiddler on the Roof, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Little Women) performed for the school and community. Music includes Music Theory/Chorus classes, with ensembles performing at school events, pastor banquets, and fundraisers. Student artwork from all grades is displayed and sold at an annual Art Auction that has raised thousands of dollars for the school. Other activities include service projects, Spiritual Emphasis Week, and a variety of rotating electives and clubs that change yearly based on student and community interest.
