Croydon School District

Special Education & Section 504

The Croydon School District has a duty to locate, evaluate, and identify any child residing in the district who qualifies for special education services, or any child attending public schools who may require Section 504 accommodations for services.

Children eligible for special education include those children with disabilities who have autism, deaf-blindness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, visual impairment, or developmental delay and who, because of such an impairment, need special education services.

Children eligible for Section 504 accommodations or services include those children who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.

Child Find

On an annual basis, Croydon School District publicizes and disseminates information, which describes its Child Find Program. This  includes a description of the District’s special education program, supports and services, including the name of our contact person, his/her functions, and the manner by which he/she might be contacted for further information or referral.

Twice a year, by October 5th and March 1st, the Croydon School District Senior Education Officer posts Child Find notices in the local papers (Valley News and Kearsarge Shopper) and on the school website.

Annually, by March 1st, the Croydon School District’s Senior Education Officer sends a Child Find letter to local service providers (including local private schools) with a copy of the referral form.
