The Croydon School Board is pleased to announce that the district has been earmarked for $1.17 million as part of a congressionally directed spending package secured by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Sue Blair, the district’s Senior Education Officer, applied for the grant to assist with an improvement and expansion of Croydon Village School’s facilities. The district will have a 25% matching requirement, meaning total spending would be broken down as follows (assuming the full grant is utilized):
- $1,170,000 from the grant (75% of total)
- $390,000 from local taxpayers (25% of total)
- $1,560,000 total project cost
The grant will come from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of their Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. Although the funds have been earmarked, the official grant has not yet been awarded. As such, the district expects to be contacted by the USDA sometime within the next 1-2 months to begin the formal application process. The School Board will have further details once contact is made, and it will update the public once there is more to report.
There will be no impact on the upcoming 2026/2027 school year. In the meantime, the administration is developing recommendations for how to best proceed once the grant is officially awarded and the funds become available.
